"Live in Your Living Room", a tag given by a fan, just about sums up the experience when listening to Muso. Originally from Cape Town, at the tip of Africa, the sound of Muso has a very “live jam” feel to it. “We just love to pick up our guitars and let rip,” says Ash, the guitar whiz behind the solos you hear on their songs. “When we write, we’ll hit on some chords or a riff, and then build it out from there, putting some structure to it and then adding the lyrics.” So what kind of music do they write and play, then? “Honestly? The kind of stuff we like to listen to ourselves. What’s the point if you don’t like what you play?” Del, the wordsmith and rhythm guitar in Muso agrees. “We don’t aim to sound like anyone in particular, but obviously we have influences, just like everyone else. We just play together and see what comes from it. If we find a song, great. If we don’t, we still have a cracking jam.”

Is their music aimed at any particular audience? “Never thought about it like that,” says Del. “I guess whoever likes it is our audience.” Okay, but shouldn’t they fit in somewhere? After all, it’s not as if they are playing hardcore rap, or dance, or... “Well, truth is, there are so many flavours of music out there, and they’re all selling. We see it this way – why give a fuck what pigeonhole you fit into so long as there are people out there who identify with your music? Everyone has different tastes, and all music in essence is good, so who cares what is listened to? It’s about the music, not me and you. Hey, that's a line from one of our songs!”

Hard to argue with that. The songs are deliberately kept away from “studio perfection”, and things such as small mistakes, fret buzz, string slides and vocal pops are left in to try and capture the “Live In Your Living Room” feel.

Time to listen to the music and decide for yourself, we reckon.  Glad to have you along for the ride...
